Demystifying the COPs
Explore the history, impact and decision-making process behind the Conference of the Parties (COPs) with two experts, each offering a unique perspective.
At COP summits global leaders gather to make major decisions. But how did COPs begin, who gets to attend and how are decisions made? Plus, if the decisions being made impact all our futures, then how can we have a say?
When it comes to climate, these conferences are the world’s most significant decision-making events, shaping the future of people and the planet. But change also happens outside these meetings, beyond the influence of world leaders.
This year’s COP30 takes place in Brazil, home to the Amazon rainforest – a symbol of nature and key to the health of the planet. Join Daniel Bradley, Head of Climate and Environment for the UK Mission to the EU, and Larissa Pinto Moraes, climate justice activist and co-founder of Engajamundo, a youth-led organisation in Brazil tackling social and environmental challenges. Together, they’ll unpack the COP process, share their first-hand experiences, discuss their expectations for COP30 and highlight opportunities for action inside and outside the conferences.
